For *years* I've loved to help people just like you get over a fear of falling. The more anxious the person is, the more I look forward to helping them.

How does this work?

The course is not rocket science:

  1. Lay a foundation of really good belay skills
  2. Learn to differentiate good catches from bad catches.
  3. Learn with your belayer to always give good catches, in a wide variety of situations
  4. Slowly, incrementally, ratchet up the severity of the falls, from "trivial top-rope falls" to "very non-trivial".
  5. Throughout it all, don't move to something harder until you feel absolutely comfortable
"That's cool, Josh. Sounds nice. How do I know this will work? I've already tried Climbing/Rock&Ice/Reddit/my friend's advice on taking falls. It worked... sorta"

Great question. The secret to this (don't tell anyone, OK?) is that your fear is not the problem. It's a useful indicator. I'll show you how to use it as an indicator, instead of using it as a source of shame.

Oh, and I've done this before, dozens of times. I taught many people this exact material, in person, way back when. But unless you and I happen to climb together regularly, there's no way for me to share this information with you!

"How will this benefit me?"
  • Gain the comfort on lead you wished you had, in a few days, instead of in a few years
  • Do you have projects you want to send this summer or fall? The biggest improvement you can make in a few weeks is your mental control. A few more gym sessions won't make much of a difference.
  • Do you want to just enjoy climbing instead of worrying about falling? If you're like me, you sometimes spend six or ten or twenty hours climbing, every week. Don't you think you should do something to make every single one of those hours more fun and productive?
